Default Harness Bar

I want to install a Brey Krause R1030 harness bar in my car. Their web site says the bar can be installed "without damaging the car in any way" but at the very least it appears that holes must be cut (or slits made) in the carpet to access the mounting points over the rear shock towers, or the carpet must be removed completely. Does anyone know of a source for factory carpet that I could modify so that I could save my original piece if I ever sell my car (god forbid). Or, I'm open to other suggestions....... TIA.

I think that those slits already exist, no?

I had to/decided to cut slits into my carpet, but it does hide the bolt heads and attachment hardware. I suppose I'll have to buy a new carpeted trim piece when I sell/trade the car but it looks pretty clean when the bar is not installed. I can attach the bar for the track in less then 20 minutes.

Mike,

You can either remove the carpet piece that covers the shock towers or cut it. I decided to cut mine, so I ordered a new one from the dealer in order to have an uncut one to put back in the car if I wanted to sell it.

Thanks Karl, I'll probably do the same as you did. My OEM carpet is attached (glued?) to a large piece of sound insulating foam that spans the area between the two shock towers. I was hoping to get a simple section of carpet to cut and use with the bar installation and save the more expensive carpet/foam piece to put back in the car. Guess I'll call the dealer and see how much they will gouge me for a replacement factory part.

Karl,

Another question for you. What do you think of the Brey Krause harness truss bar? A bit cheaper and less obtrusive than the R1030. Drawbacks?

Mike in CA,
It is only for 993 and earlier cars. I looked into it because it is pretty slick. The problem is the factory sliding seat beat shoulder mounts that the truss uses for anchorage.

Thanks Ken. The ad says "fits all 911's 69-present" but I guess they haven't updated the copy for a while.

Maybe, they don't consider the 996 a 911? Just kidding...
