meant to say $1110... just got the vehicle... 2001 c2 with 26000... pristine... oil is leaking due to the rms and wanted to change the ims. figured i'd do the aos at the same time; but not for $550

Sweet car -- agree with Hardback except as to basing any of the decision on the age of the car. You have a jewel and are doing the right thing to have it taken care of, accordingly. Find an indy whom you really trust and go from there. The dealer may be terrific, as well, and for now might be a good bet for you. Perhaps you can negotiate the price down a bit?

Ok. My blood pressure can return to normal.

Just about soiled my pants when I saw $11k for the bearing job.

First , you're at a dealer so not surprising. Second, do they already have the transmission off and other parts taken apart already? If they started the work, you're probably at their mercy if you wanna get the AOS done which would be the best time. The difference in the cost of AOS(close to $400), not sure if you can find an Indy to do it for cheaper than that so it could be a wash.

The o2, you can always do yourself later or by any generic muffler shop.

I guess you got your first lesson to not bring these cars to a dealer if you don't have to.

Simply state that the additional work is priced extremely high given that the trans is already out making the AOS replacement quite simple. I have been dedicated to my dealer, which for me is about to change, however when I had the LNE IMSB installed they originally invoiced me an additional $460.00 labor to install a new clutch pack. All I had to do was tell the service writer that it didn't make sense because it was the same labor steps to put my old clutch back in as it was to unbox and install the new clutch. The $460.00 went away immediately and the service writer was very apologetic and quite red in the face. I also had my AOS replaced and I think the labor was for 1/2 hour, I provided my own new AOS which cost me $120.00.

Remember that they are in business to make money, and as much as they can get away with. Some folks prescribe to the notion that if you own a Porsche that you have more dollars than sense.

You have the right to question them and to show that you are educated and you can do so in a polite manner.

while they are in there and the trans is out, how about a new lightweight flywheel with a sport clutch and pressure plate?

3 hours labor; they said it would normally be 6... Just talked to them and the ims rms and aos would be $2899 out the door.

What exactly is the dealer replacing on the IMS portion? Is it just the IMS flange to resolve any leaks or are they actually putting in a new LNE retrofit bearing? It is often easy to misunderstand exactly what is being done especially if you are fairly new to Porsches when it comes to the IMS. I've read countless times when owners thought they were getting the IMS bearing replaced by the dealer when in fact it was merely just the IMS Flange that had been replaced.

Edit: Make sure to ask them for the old IMS bearing, RMS, AOS back. Also don't be surprised if the RMS leaks on you again so make sure you are clear on their warranty policies regarding parts and labor.

hi. thanks for your concern. they are replacing the bearing. they did say though that they would have to ship it back to ln due to their strict regulations??? as far as the rms warranty i will definitely check on that! thanks!

Correct, technically you're suppose to return your old bearing for the warranty on the LN bearing to be valid.
