Default '99 Cab Top Issue

So I went to implement a Porsche TSB to reduce the rattling in my convertible top. Part of the process was loosening the two torx bolts that hold the sun visor (and the guide for the convertible top supports) to the windscreen frame. I was working on the Driver's side.

Unfortunately as I slightly loosened one of the torx bolts, it just fell out. I looked up in the hole and I can clearly see that the retaining nut (which is inside the windscreen frame) is broken. The other torx bolt retaining nut is still good (which is why the sun visor never fell off on that side).

Any ideas on how to replace the retaining nut? I can't see how to access the back of the nut so I can put a new one in. I pulled back a bit of the rubber seal at the top of the windscreen frame and all I see is the top side of the metal windscreen frame..

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Hope this is all clear....

when you say I looked up in the hole and I can clearly see that the retaining nut (which is inside the windscreen frame) is broken. What? Is the nut broken in half? Broken what way? Are the threads stripped? Can it be re tapped and a slightly larger torx bolt used? Pretty hard to imagine without seeing it.

Yes, the retaining nut broke into three independent pieces. I can see them inside the windscreen frame. They are a bit loose so I can't re-tap it. Any ideas how I could get to the back of it? Otherwise I'm thinking of putting some sort of nut up through the hole with some JB weld. Or maybe some sort of expansion nut.

I'd really rather get to the back of it though. I'm afraid it might require the windshield to be removed. I cant really see any other way to access it.

Ask at your local wind shield place how much they would charge to remove it and put it back in a week... I think that's the best way to go. They would probably have it out in minutes. That's if you are sure that's the way to go.

Good idea. In the mean time I may give these a shot as a short-term solution. Rubber expansion nuts.

I'm going to go with the Mike Focke nutsert solution. Its the "right" way to go for a permanent solution.
