997 shifter swap
Did the swap for 997 OEM shifter for my 996. It was pretty easy and it makes a very nice difference. Seems a little shorter but much more precise. It could be partly going from a 100,000 miles shifter to a newer one but it makes the car a lot more fun to drive. Before I got it I questioned if I should have gone tiptronic since the old one was not much fun. Now, I am very glad I got the manual trans.
There is a tool that comes with the shifter that keeps it at exactly neutral. I found that my cables were off significantly which could have affected the shifter as well.
Thanks to everyone for the great posts which made the job much easier. It would have been better if I had followed the reverse on putting it together. I had to take if off because I forgot the shifter cover.
