I had the same noise on startup about 33% of the time. Replaced the started bc I was embarrassed when starting it up at AutoX and everyone would look at me like "wtf was that noise?"

Any tips for starter removal? I got the two bolts out, and undid the 2 wires, but can't get the starter out. It won't budge.

That's strange as those two are the only bolts holding the starter. Maybe tap it lightly with a hammer or something?

Yeah, I tried tapping it, and tried spinning the engine. It won't even wiggle.

Maybe spray some PBblaster on where it mounts to the engine? A pry bar may help also.

Being the smart engineer I am, I used a bigger hammer It's out now. I was being too gentle at first.

You were correct to be gentle though as heavy hammering can damage the starter or its solenoid. Hope nothing bad happened
