Yes,, I just had this install completed on my 2001 Boxster S by Tuners.

Cost was $799 for the kit plus the labor, labor was 10 hours (manual transmission), total $1849 + tax, $1959 total.

I expect to keep this car for a long time and wanted to address all known failure points on this engine. I watched them complete the install and it is a fairly straight forward process.

They keep the area very clean and I was impressed with the attention to detail.

Good luck..

it is surprising to see jack raby and tuners coming with same solution a few month apart..

really expensive fix though...You can buy a new engine for most other sports car for that price ;(

Incorrect. These two products have nothing in common from a design standpoint.

My previous c4s has the LN bearing upgrades done, but I still did not feel ok, since that part only has 1yr warranty. Now this DOF can provide 5yrs warranty, that means they are confident about this product, I will likely buy this DOF and install it if I bought another 996 again. However, from the picture of the product, the DOF kit only includes a few parts, it is too expensive with the price tag of $799. The main problem of the ims failure really not about the bearing, but the bearing lubrication.

Unfortunately or not, something's "value" is not measured by its cost to make, or how many parts it is, or even the cost to develop, but what value it offers (or perceived to offer). A normal music CD cost less than $0.20 to manufacture when people where shelling out $15.00 for them. I don’t know enough about DOF yet, but it seems to offer another means to protect your engine from this potential catastrophic flaw. We love our 996's, and people’s fear of this will drive them to their indies to have this done. Those who have invested in DOF development, and are marketing it, have done their homework.

I hope someone comes out with a spin on oil filter adapter, flexible braided hose, modified IMS flange (drilled to squirt oil onto open bearing) and open ceramic bearing kit soon at a reasonable price. I believe a fair price would be around $500. The vendor would make descent money at this price I'd bet. This would be a much simpler DIY kit.

^^ i think as the M96 cars continue to depreciate (at least partially attributable to everyone saying they will blow up), the $2-3K preventative fix just wont be as easy to swallow or market to the MK1 market. The window for the IMSB / DOF solution at that price is quickly closing. The price will adjust as demand adjusts. For now, I plan on choosing the one with the most history of success (hard to really quantify perhaps) and the one from the most respected / referred development team.

I have an '05 Standard 987 (the 1st year of the 2nd Gen Boxster, with a build date of 09/04) that just hit 85k today. This is my daily driver and I plan to keep it for long time. My assumption has been that, while the 987 isn't as prone to IMS issues, it still is a concern. Anyone wish to weigh in on this potential engine-killer in my car & is the Direct Oil Feed worth considering?

seems like these engine have many point of failure, like any other engine, it was just blown out of proportion online AND by the fact that porsche started increasing the price of their engine from $8k in mid-2000 to now almost $20k, making the car worthless.

you will not get the money back you put it but see it that way, the car doesn't depreciate anymore, so think of it as a few month lease and you get to keep the car

DOF is great but according to some of the members here its an absolute absurd idea to use a sealess bearing like I did because of the horrors of oil contamination. Though a few on her disagree for all the wrong reasons, a sealess bearing is the only real solution. DOF proves my point.

BTW, you can do your own DOF for less than $100.

cool, you went through with it. Did you put the ceramic or std bearing in? What was the total cost?
