Buying Jake Raby FAMILY Porsche 996 tomorrow
OK, so after searching - walking away - following leads on Rennlist, and a gracious call from Jake Raby, I came across an opportunity to buy a family car from Jake Raby. I am planning to buy this car without a PPI - Jake's name stands behind his business. I feel very comfortable with this being my first Porsche purchase (Jake seems to be very well respected within the community). Pics of the car ar here: http://webologyworx.com/911.asp - any words of advice? I feel this is a great deal on an excellent 996 - being owned by Jake Raby's family makes me feel this is a well conditioned car. It has already had his IMS solution to replace the IMS bearing issue, plus several thousand in upgrades since he owned the car. I assume others can attest to his credit?

This is terrible. The whole reason for buying a 996 is to rant and rave on forums about exploding engines and IMS failures. This will be like a celebrity without a drug problem, nice but not nearly as entertaining to watch.
Your going to be an outcast with nothing better to do than rack up miles and think of all the bugs you'll have to clean off...I would reconsider.

It has already been PPI by the best in the business. All you need to do is choose if you want it delivered to you or if you want to pick it up on Raby mountain & enjoy the pleasant drive home.

Sure looks like it. I also seem to remember (but I could be wrong) that the seller had a change of heart and wanted to keep it but Jake wasn't willing to cancel the deal. Can't blame Jake for seizing the opportunity for a quick flip.

My wife loved the cab, she still does. My 20 month old daughter's seat didn't fit we'll in the back of the cab. More than that my wife had vein stripping surgery in her left leg a few years ago and the clutch would kill her leg if she hit traffic in the cab.
I bought her a 993 tiptronic last week and solved the clutch problem and Ava's baby seat fits much better too, and its AirCooled:-)
Karl got one of the cleanest 996s on the planet and it couldn't go to a nicer, more deserving guy. He is local in the Atlanta area and we will be able to keep the car serviced for him. He contacted us looking for a car, I mentioned this one and he had to have it. I never tried to sell the car and it really wasn't for sale as I had never listed it. After adding the 993 my stable was over filled and Beth decided she would sell the car. We miss the car already and I called Karl to make sure he still loved the car before I took his check to the bank. He said that his face was hurting from smiling so much :-)

Yup - picked the car up from Jake yesterday (great, knowledgeable and super friendly guy). Loving it - It is flawless - just wish it would stop raining so I could go spend some more time driving it this weekend!
Thanks Jake!
