Default New neighbor with a 996.2 with 108,000 miles on ODO

Just moved in.
996.2 C4S with 108,000 miles on odometer.
He has changed AOS and cracked filler tube.
Other than that the car is stock. I asked him if he had changed the IMS.
He said "what's that".

Then I asked him if he was on rennlist, renntech or 6speed - he said "No, I don't belong to any car forums"

I think he sleeps better than we do.

Imagine the bliss of not knowing that your side markers are the wrong color, that your perfectly-running car is a ticking time bomb just WAITING for an excuse to let go, that you are ruining it by not driving it enough / driving it too much / not driving it hard enough / driving it too hard, and that by using the right oil, you're using the WRONG oil.

You have got to get this guy on the forum so he can worry like the rest of us. If he asks you about the "marbles in can sound" he heard on the way home from work, it will be too late.

Or, just let him read a few of the threads. He will either join or sell his car.

So many Porsche owners who are not forum regulars are actually enjoying their Porsches every day without any concerns that plague the internet forums. Kind of like having their own imaginary IMS Guardian.

Aha! Kind of like the "low information" voters?

You mean until they get the class action notice about the failing IMS and then realize their car is beyond the in service date to make any claims?

If they never had a problem, why would they care about the class action suit?

Most people who failed to take preventative maintenance in IMSB or cooling also do not read the forums...

There is sleeping better at night, waiting for Porsche to acknowledge known issues and there is taking action based on readily available information.

I engaged with him a discussion about oil. I told him I used Motul Xcess.
He said he just uses regular Mobil 1 every 5K miles at the dealer and didn't realize there were alternatives.
And yes, his side markers are pumpkins.

I decided to stop there and talk about preschool for the kids instead.
