Default Why does my tire lose air?

My car can sit for a week in my garage, & the air pressure remains the same, but if I drive it the ~18 miles to work, & then check it before I leave, it will be down between 5-8 psi, this has happened more than once.
Anybody have any ideas?

I second that :/

Check the valve stem, had that happen on my last car drove me nuts and even dealer could not figure out. Finally turned out was a valve stem as tire rotated or heated up would leak but just sitting there in right position did not.

Could also be a puncture with an exposed nail or screw head...when you roll over it, a little air escapes.

I diagnosed just such an intermittent slow leak in my 'Vette with a trip to the drag strip. The first burnout and resulting display of sparks made it clear that the issue was something stuck through the tread.

Yes, check the valve stem. I had a very similar "slow" leak. Took it to the local tire shop, removed the wheel and sunk it in the water bath. Tiny tiny bubbles could be seen leaking from the valve stem where the rubber meets the metal thread (that retains the cap).

May also be a slightly corroded inner rim where the Tire bead sits, it may need cleaning up and a re-fit of the tire if you don't find a foreign object in the tire.

check your wheel for hairline cracks...could be the cause as well.

Bring it to a tire shop and have them fix it. You've got a leak somewhere. You're in TX but around here (in CT) some of the shops do it for free. Don't chase air. Just have someone fix it.

+1 on the crack especially if you have 18"s. Every time the tire rotates the crack flexs and opens a bit so air escapes. That's a lot of loss for 18 miles. A valve stem would leakall th etime, not just when rotating. Replaced a wheel with a crack, same symptoms.

I have already had to have one of my rear wheels re-sealed as they are 3 piece.
