Default creaking and groaning like a NY City Taxi...

My C4S has begun to creak and groan when going over speed bumps. It wasn't too bad, but for some reason it really kicked up a notch today. It is now doing it when I drive on a rough road or even over undulations in the road surface.

I think it's time for some new bushings...

My car sounded like an old ship up front Dennis. I found out the passenger front strut mount was bad during suspension change over. I new mount cured all the creaking.

My strut mounts were changed last year. I suspect this is another bushing or two.

On the bright side (I think...), my wife is saying things like: "this car is getting too old and too expensive. You need to sell it and buy a new one!"

Do you think it's the bushings or the control arm? My car started doing this at the rear driver side a couple of month after buying it, some suggests it's the lower control arm(s) but I hate to get a part before knowing for certain that is the part causing the noise as there are a couple more control arms plus the bushings, I've tried to use silicon spray to isolate the exact point/source of noise, no luck so far........

I have no idea. I'll let my Indy sort it out...

Since your wife has given you the green light Dennis.... you did mention a few days ago, about interest in a 997.

Hi
My dealer diagnosed the exact same symptoms you described
Changed inner and outer tie rods for around $700 and the car drives new again

I've already been looking at 997.2s online! I've actually found some 991s with less than 10K miles that might fit the bill too. We're in the middle of a move right now though, so if I decide to purchase another Porsche, it will probably be in ~6 months. I'm just in the looking stage now. I haven't even decided what I would get if I decided to buy one. Cab or coupe? Another 4S? Not sure yet...

I wouldn't be surprised if I just get the C4S fixed and keep it either. I really just got it the way I want it, and it sure is nice not having a monthly car payment!

We'll see...

Hold on Dennis...you recently moved to Colorado, are you moving out of state again? Still with DePuy?

We're only moving a couple of miles up the road. I'm still with DePuy. It's all good! Our new house is in a maintenance-free, gated neighborhood. The HOA does all the lawn maintenance and all the snow removal, including our driveway. It will be great because I travel frequently and both boys will be out of the house in college this fall.

Front end started squeaking and groaning, control arms were shot. Did the tie rods, too.

Now that our move is finally finished, I had a chance to get the C4S into the shop for a diagnosis and repair for the creaking issue. The diagnosis is that I've got a bad lower control arm ball joint on the passenger's side. Fortunately there wasn't any play in the joint, it's just loud (and getting louder). It gets replaced tomorrow AM, and that should hold me for a while.

Better to spend a few hundred on control arms than it is to take on a lot more debt!
