If the current owner doesn't know if his/her car is a c4 or c2 I wouldn't even consider buying from that person. Shows how much he/she cared for the car

yeah.... sorry to be a jerk, but this is a a stupid question. i could understand if you didn't have a computer (or a phone) but this is NOT a question you should be asking if you are about to spend (at least) 20 grand. if you have a problem with my comment...... go to hell. yeah i just said that. ban me.
sneaky pete go f - yourself , you know damn well this is a dumb question.,
Well that's first......a "user" with 9 posts tells me to Fvck off? What are you 12? And no its not a dumb question. You don't know who the OP is. He is asking a legit question. Keep up the smart *** comments and you will be the one who gets the boot.
If you're asking because you want an AWD Porsche then you should look to the later 997 models. The 996 does not have a truly functional AWD system in comparison.
As suggested, without getting underneath the car, the easiest way to tell is to pop the hood to look at the frunk. The pictures already posted are very helpful.
Get the car in the air and look for the cardan shaft from the tranny to the front diff, look then for the diff, and from each side of the diff an axle to the front hub/wheel.
I believe that RWD models have a compact spare tire in the frunk. AWD models have a collapsible spare tire with a compressor underneath the floor in the frunk.
