I'd install
X51 oil pan or similar product
low temp sensor
3rd radiator

Make sure your cooling system is working correctly and pressure tested.

Thanks for the feedback. I have been told you can't get an X51 pan from Porsche if it was not part of your car originally. So where do I find an X51?! I had a feeling that the 996 would have enough power for me, even at VIR, for quite a while if not forever. I just prefer the newer 996 Aero kit with the GT3 wing, but that is not a priority for sure. I'm looking forward to the fun.

Tarrett Engineering offers a baffle that you can install at a reasonable price:

The third radiator is a good investment as well. I meant to mention it in my prior post, and forgot.

I just did the same thing. Purchased an '03 streetable track car from Jake Raby. Had a fresh motor, some aftermarket aero parts, PSS10s, lightweight wheels and a few other goodies. It's a slippery slope on the mods and I've gone a bit overboard already. I added FVD baffle kit on Jake's recommendation (got it from Suncoast).

Have fun.

Sunroof delete, factory aero-kit, GT3-style wheels... Definitely has the look!

Looks like it doesn't have PSM either?

Default No , don't do it!

The OP's question was if the car was too nice to convert into a track platform. Yes, it is! 10 yrs FSH, low miles (how low?) and looking that sharp, she makes a real nice GT. Yes, you may drive her TO the track but turning a 10 year old Lotus Elise into a track car make more sense to me. My 06 C2S was like yours when I got her, but now she rides harsh and loud due to all the mods I put in and I've got pitting all over my wind screen, lights and front bumper. My kids can't get into the back seat anymore due to my harness bars and sometimes I wish I could take them on a ride on daddy's sports car.

I belive EBS sells a version of baffle kit that is similar to the x51, call Don at EBS (800) 462-3774. He is a great guy to deal with and has great prices too. He has helped me find lots of parts needed for my build including a set of x51 alum. intake runners (uppers & lowers) that i needed.

mglobe is right about the 2qt deep sump not being good for street use, it does sit low, they do offer a .5qt deep sump that is more daily driver friendly

That looks like the car I called about at Jim Ellis...and was told it had sold. Beautiful choice. Enjoy!

on Pelican you can get one

Low Temperature Thermostat (160 deg F)

996-106-013-59-M902

Water Thermostat, Low Temperature (begins opening at 160 deg F) with Cover and Gasket, 996 Carrera 2/4 (1999-04)
Brand: Wahler [More Info]

$70.00
These low temperature thermostats are produced by MotoRad, an OE supplier to many car manufacturers, including Porsche. These are factory-made housings and are not modified. It is calibrated to allow thermostat opening a full 20-25F degrees earlier than the factory thermostat. That means that the low temperature thermostat is designed to be fully open by 180-185F, allowing for full flow to the cooling system to maximize cooling potential.

That's a beautiful white track car. Keep us in the loop with your upgrades.

Default Picked up the car today

Frankly, it is stunning for a 10+ year old car. Less than 40k miles and looks almost brand new. Almost no road rash, no dings, no curb rash. Interior is spotless, no wear on the seat bolsters. Better yet, it pulls like a Porsche from every gear and is tight! No rattles, no vibrations, tracks straight.
Now I am really torn. I don't need another weekend car as I have my garage full of them. Do I sell this to someone who will take good care of it as a sporty road car, or do I use this and go down the slippery slope of track car?
If I keep it and start the mods I will certainly have one of the nicest looking 996's out there. A car this clean will look fast even if I am not!
If I sell it I won't lose any sleep but then I need to get on the hunt for a 996 to track that is not falling apart and can be hand for <$30k.

What do you experts say?
