Default Tape Holder Delete

I got my MK1 just over a month ago, and just finished the Fister swap--sounds amazing! Now it's time for something else, and I have my heart set on getting rid of that eyesore of a tape holder under the head unit. I've done a basic search that didn't turn anything up...has anyone gotten rid of this? if so, do you just replace it w/ a hollow din unit for storage or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here ya go. Be sure to specify upper or lower. Install is really tricky though.

As above. Just pull the tape thing out and push in the new cubby.

That's a tape holder? I never personally bothered to look at it past the "WTF is that?" glance. But it's nice to know if i do get a 996 that I'll be able to place 4 mix tapes in the dash, while holding my coffee and trying to shift.

So some of the early decks were tape decks?

My '99 has a CD deck and holder. It was a one owner car but it doesn't have orange tail or headlight indicaters either.

My '99 had a CD player (CDR-210) until about 45 minutes after the UPS guy showed up. Now it has a bluetooth gizmo that takes and makes calls, plays music off my phone, announces navigation and makes a delicious pound cake. I'll have CD holders until about 45 seconds after the UPS guy comes back.

I started off with a plan to replace the CD holder with a cubby and add a simple iPod interface, but got a bit carried away....

First this...

Then this...

Now this...
