The hated rattle

Well of course. But easy to say on a nice road. A bit harder to say when driving down the interstate.

Despite having 100k miles on it, by 02 is more or less rattle free. There is a rattle somewhere in the drivers door that is driving me crazy though, I need to yank the doorcard and see if I can find it.

rpm's S2: True, NJ doesn't have the best roads in the country.
Actually, I recall that there was this irritating rattle from the passenger seat itself. Whenever I kept light objects like my phone, that used to vibrate with the seat. I don't know what caused it, but changing the seat position seemed to fix it (the girlfriend wasn't very pleased though)

Captain, there are extensive TSBs on Renntech that cover many kinds of rattles/squeaks. I saw one covering the doors that may be useful to you.

Tried the e-brake tip last night, and the scream of my passenger as the front and rear ends swapped made the ashtray rattle disappear!
Note: I took the car into its last warranty period coverage to have this occasional rattle tended to, and left the dealership with a much more consistent buzz. But don't get me started...

There was this very annoying rattle coming from the drivers seat area but only when I drove along very rough roads. I went to my dentist and he fixed my top set of dentures for me.. problem solved

2 years of a fecking rattle b4 I found it was a cracked bracket inside the tip. Relentless irritation finally relieved, no more therapy, meds...well, maybe a few meds from time to time....thinking about IMS...

I painted mine Aluma-look. I used 3 coats then 3 separate coats of poly. Not a scratch on mine and it is in a high "traffic" area and gets lots of direct sunlight.
Install is a piece of cake. The old ashtray comes out by simply removing 2 torx screws in the bottom of the assembly. The window switches pop off with a small screwdriver (tip: label the switches so you put them back correctly. Also, save the screws because the part I purchased did not come with new screws).
Not counting paint, this would be a 20 minute project. IMHO, I think it really updates the center console.

Check the door latch. On my boxster I had one that sounded like it was coming from the drivers rear quarter panel to figure out it was door rubbing on the latch. I wrapped the latch with some duct tape and it was gone forever.
