Default Transmission Oil Change Cost

I have searched the forums and cannot find an answer. I got quoted $489 for a tranny oil change on a 2001 996 with a manual transmission. Does anyone have a sense as to the cost at an indy?? I live in the NYC area, so i will add 10-15% for the rape factor! Thanks!!

$489 is rape. Genuine Porsche oil=$40LX3=$120. It's a 10 minute job. Maybe more counting the time to adjust the hoist. Even cheaper to use other gear oil= Redline, Liqui Moly etc

+1. I would say 1hr labor charged is fair though.

I would think half of that is what a indy would/should charge.

Thats laughable. This is a very easy DIY even on a AWD.

If you do it yourself, make sure to loosen the filler pug BEFORE loosening the drain plug.

Let's see.. In March of 2008 at a local Porsche dealer I paid $177.27 for a 5-speed tranny fluid change in my 02 Boxster. $39.09/liter (3) and $60 labor. This works out to 0.4 hours labor.

In January of 2008 at the same local dealer I paid $69.44 for a 6-speed tranny fluid change in my 03 Turbo. $6.11/liter (4) for the fluid and $45 labor. This works out to 0.3 hours labor.

The low cost of the fluid I was told was due to the fact the dealership had some excess fluid left over from some warranty work and because I'm a good customer sold the fluid to me at a discount.

I have just paid $280 at my local porsche dealer to change the transmission oil with porsche oem fluid.
The car was in for a water pump replacement so I figured I'd skip that DIY

I had a quote of $179 from my Indy. Decided to buy the transmission fluid and do it myself. Ordered 1 gallon of "Mobil 1 75w90 Delvac" from BR Racing for $40 + shipping.

I haven't done it yet but I will report back when it's done. A little chilly here in southern Alabama (we actually got below freezing last night ) and I only have a car-port so will wait for another month or so for weather to warm up. Stock piling stuff for engine oil & & transmission fluid change and replacing the fuel filter as well. Hoping to squeeze in new motor mounts as well.
