I never said I didn't like them plus the boxer motor has an even lower center of gravity so don't really see the point.

Yes I have and liked working on them along with all the older inline 6 motors of BMW as well due to their simplicity.

I've been amazed at how long Chevy has been able to use the pushrod design for this long.

Pictures are of My ManCave and My 2 Hogs (A10 WartHog, 2011 FatBoy Lo)

looks like an A-10 out of The Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, home to the Louisiana Air National Guard's 159th Fighter Wing.....

I just got the 30x40 shop built last Aug (floor is Durell Epoxy Paint I did myself, Wired by Me also), was in the process of moving the 88GT in when this 996 deal came up. Now anybody want to buy Fiero HP parts? LOL I’ve watched the 996 owner drive this car for the past 10yrs and had missed a few opportunities to drive it. So yep! I’ve NEVER driven a PORSCHE.
My thinking, and again trying not to offend, is this car will be way more fun with 430hp LS., Go to Renegade Hybrids and watch the video. The drive train should handle that HP as long as I don’t go stupid. I would never be comfortable driving any 996 engine on a long trip, worried if my metal warning light comes on. I see myself going to the car meets and people see JUST another 996 till I open the trunk and they see a LS, that should get their attention.

It's obvious that these 2 pics are not the same building but putting them back to back like that reminds me of Doctor Who's phone booth station. The original Doctor Who too, not that SyFy ripoff. Doctor Who fans know what I'm talking about

It better be if they want people to shell out $8k+ for their conversion kits.

Exactly, so how is this cheaper than a rebuild on a M96?

I would just like to see one of these build threads from start to finish. I don't think I've seen any 996 v8 threads here with actual hi res pics and video.

It's easy to think that way when you have a running car. When I started my 996 project, plan A was to try to fix it,
I think your thread proves it can be done at minimum cost. I hate to see a clean C4S modded when it could be a classic one day. The hybrid build will pretty much render the car a novelty. Its his so whatever he wants is fine.

My personal opinion on this is a naturally aspirated engine with gobs of torque, no lag and less components to wear out are all pros. The only con would be a slightly higher cost over a m96 rebuild. Actually, in the long run, an all motor LS will net far more power gains for a lot less money so that factor alone eats up the cost difference. Since the car will remain all wheel drive he will also have little worries on traction loss from the low end torque.

First off with the sheer amount of numbers produced and the 996 stigma that might never fade away, it might be a cult car but I would have a hard time believing it would be a classic(at least in our lifetimes).

Although I'm not a purist, I like to stick with OEM stuff personally but that doesn't mean I don't like and appreciate what others are doing to their rides to satisfy THEM. We don't all look at the 996 in terms of an investment or resale down the line. Some of us just want to have the maximum fun and enjoyment without breaking our personal piggy banks. I can certainly appreciate that but more so appreciate taking risks and going into unknowns that people haven't been too many times before instead of just sticking with the plain boring vanilla stuff. Even more so when they are doing it themselves. my $.02
