The plastic windows on the 99-01 are a pain on the cabriolet. My vote would be well cared for 2002, I had a 99 in the past and the VarioCam Plus is nice on 2002+ (but trickier to repair if have an issue) also glass rear window.
Thats my personal opinion, but its based from aspects most wouldn't consider.
Considering who u r, I am very VERY interested in hearing ur aspects for consideration. For certain, the 1999 is going to be the "cheapest." Have a '99 with 49K miles located in town. Two problems being silver and coupe BUT one local owner and asking price is very attractive.

Appreciate ur thoughts and added to my PRO list for the 2002.
As member of Boxster Register so happy to know rennlist will offer same online support I have found in the past.
Once Carrera found and in the garage, photos will be posted. Must add will not settle for less desired color choices regardless of MY. So must find patience to be a virtue.
earliest 99 you can find. Porsche put everything in and it went down from there
Remember 'gone in 60-seconds' when they drove the 996 through the Dealership window? That was a 99 C2! I fell in love and went out and bought my Speed Yellow 6-speed......

Actually it wasn't.. That car recently sold and was advertised as an earlier aircooled 911 with body mods to make it appear as a 996.
