Default Brake Rotors

I am preparing to replace all four rotors on my Y2K 996. Is there any major advantages/disadvantages to coated vs non-coated?

I am probably going aftermarket. Both front and rears are nearing minimums.

If going aftermarket, coated rotors will look prettier for longer time.

Hey man, i did a full brake job in the summer, i used Sebro rotors with textar pads.
The Sebro's are excellent quality, they were coated but on the pelican website it says they are not. The Textar pads are of good quality as well, got everything including retainer kits front and rear, shipped to Milton for under 1000.
The brakes work very well , installed easily and i have yet to hear the famous "squeal" that Porsche's are supposed to have.

What are coated, uncoated? Why not stick with oem? sports pads are excellent pads for the money...

Ferd......I think the OP means the top hats. OEM rotors come with the zinc paint on them.

Correct. I have sport pads ready to go in as soon as I decide on the hats.

Definitely get the coated or OE rotors. The non-coated rotor hats will rust in no time.

Can't you re-use the old hats? Save a bunch of money by using old hats.....
any reason to change them?

On a related note. As long as I have everything apart for the R&R, I want to remove the calipers and refinish them properly. If I unhook the brake lines, is fluid going to come gushing out? My thought is no since I wont be applying any pressure to the system.

Hats?

The oem rotors are one piece rotors.

Am I missing something?

You are correct. I am confusing myself with my own terminology. I need rotors.
