there is oil pressure on the dash but what I'd like is to log the info in a file so I can review it after i drive the car. I don't like to keep looking at the gage and it is just instant reading so it is hard to see how it progresses over time.

Where are you getting your information from? Per Porsche manual, normal HOT oil pressure for 996 is 3.5BAR at 5,000 RPM. I can post you the copy of the page in the owner's manual that says the same.

Where are you getting your 4 BAR at 3,000 RPM from? Post the source.

And IIRC I can pull up a page (well, on my PC at the office) from the 996 factory manual that gives another oil pressure reading at 5K and with the oil at IIRC 90C.

The owners manual is not the final word on oil pressure or much of anything else other than how to program the radio.
