Default Engine support bar

Hi everyone!

I´m new to the forum and the porsche world. I own a `03 996 carrera with about 65000 miles.

I will soon be replacing the clutch and the IMS bearing. I like to do everything myself and I have a 2 post lift at home so that makes things a lot easier. Looking at the service manual and several internet tutorials I´ve seen that an engine support is needed for these operations. I´ve also noticed that its a simple bar with nothing special so I will do one myself.

I would like to build the bar before I start wrenching the 911. Does someone have the exact meassurements of the bar? I would lift my 911 and meassure it myself but the lift is now "busy" with another car..

Thanks

Not too expensive to buy one.

Already saw them for sale but I´m in europe and the cheapest I´ve seen here was close to 320 euros + shipping... That´s not cheap for a steel bar

Sorry for not chiming in before, I was on vacation. Didin´t have the opportunity to lift up the car yet, in fact i didn´t have the opportunity to even see the car yet. Don´t really know when I´ll have some spare time to start wrenching the car but I promise that when I build the support bar I will post the dimensions and measurements.

Happy new year

Fpb, do you think a smaller piece of angle iron can be used safely? (the 2 7/16" part) I need to build one as light as possible. Great job BTW!

Smaller might do it, I'm sure this is overengeneered. That said the piece looks like a 2" x 3" x 1/4" T beam.

Im sorry, I thought you built it. Thats what I was thinking. Especially the 1" solid bar. Holy S$#% thats strong. That thing would hold a truck. I believe I will try a lighter version and see. Thank you for the measurements.

Oh, I see and yes flat bar will suffice where the solid bar stock is. (price jumped to $250 which buys a lot of metal stock)
