Burnt smell indicates too much slipping or something wrong (clutch not brakes). Ive never had this problem.

Im sure Hans and RAC will help. Hope he contacts them soon and this doesnt turn into another Speo thread for a new owner.
Porsche Perfume. Krazy...something must be very wrong with your car!

It is normal. I had the same issue with my car when a new clutch was put in. I was told that this was normal since the clutch is new and needs to be broken in. I was told to drive the car as I normally would and the smell should go away in a couple of hundred miles. Sure enough, after a few days everything was back to normal. I think it is just the top layer of the clutch becoming flush with the pressure plate/fly wheel.

Btw, the same is the case with brakes and rotors.

sure he will, he'll say bring it in and let us have a lot - yup, that's normal, dive it a couple hundred miles and w'll check it again

OH BTW It looks like you might be slipping the clutch a little too much, try less throttle (or no throttle) on take off and get the foot off the clutch as quickly as you can smoothly do so

really, your car doesnt smell? poor poor car is not being driven right - can you post a vin number so we can warn potential buyers later

That burnt-cosmoline Porsche perfume smell scared the p!ss out of me the first time I drove my car hard. I thought I had broken something! Now it's the sign of a good day.

And the winner is.... clutch break in. After being worried all day I just pulled it into the garage, and the faintest smell is there, but 90% less than yesterday. I imagine tomorrow it will be gone.

Although both arguments were solid I think, and I appreciate the responses.

As a side note, the shop said it should not be smelling that bad, and it's not normal, but also suggested to give it a day or two before bringing it in. I don't think I'm going to have to. Knock on wood.

The real tragedy here is that I post a picture of my 911, a Ferrari and the two Lambos, and no one is impressed with the cars or the shop. Tough crowd to please.

^^^ I did not comment because my car was on that same lift about a month ago so got to see many other "Hot Rods" in the garage as Hans calls them.

Steve,
Glad its working out and great that you checked with Hans about it. Some may think Im being over cautious but you have many that give advice that wont even work on their own cars. Im not made of money so I do all work myself.

That being said, its always better to check with who did the work if you suspect something wrong. Imagine if you drove it and it self destructed. All us free advice givers are out nothing while you just lost big money. Remember, we are all pretty much throwing ideas out there because we didnt do the work nor can we see the car (in person).

Did RAC find any other issues you need to address?

Good for you.

What's funny is that in the office when I was giving him my to-do list, Hans said we could inspect it, but talked me out of doing the water pump, and said it will leak when it's about to go. Well we got it up on the lift and it was leaking! I was actually glad, as it was one less thing to worry about. It speaks volumes that the shop owner is talking you out of getting maintenance done that he doesn't feel is necessary. Opposite of most places.

The PPI in Atlanta did not catch the leak though. It's possible it started on the 15 hour drive back.

I'm glad your smell is what most of us thought instead of trying to blame some one for a problem like KK is suggesting....but surprisingly with a whole 2 months of ownership he is an expert. These are supercars.....things break with no notice such as the water pump. It is up to you to be preventive not your mechanic. Inspect your car, crawl under it and drive it like you stole. Do that and your car will never run better. Fix it when it breaks and move on. And KK....please go drive your car. I'm out.....time for another beer.

PS.....I am not an expert
