Do you ever feel like an ass owning/driving a Porsche?

Reminds me of the time my wife and I miscommunicated on who was going to pick up our kid from highschool. I show up a few minutes early in the C4S, the kids know me from the swim team, so they congregate around the car. The wife shows up shortly with the Boxster S, top down natch, and the kids all shout "Not fair!".

I moved from the UK to the US a few years ago, in the UK 40 yrs old + with a Porsche screams ‘Midlife crisis’ especially a red or yellow car….or a cab to be honest.
Doesn’t feel as bad here in MN with a silver coupe, I did think about a yellow C2 when I was looking and my wife who never comments on my car purchases flatly refused! due to the perceived image.
I don’t know how many people I have told at work that my ‘Flash’ Porsche costs less than their new bland brand saloon parked in the lot
Like the OP said sometime you feel aware that you drive a Porsche, most think you’re a show off, maybe 5% appreciate it as a great drivers car.

Dunno where you guys live but around here both Hooters and Tilted Kilt have some of the nastiest girls around. Dunno how these girls get hired but I'm guessing all the good looking ones take regular jobs elsewhere.

I think thanks to the design of our 996's :
1) People think our cars are new, $100k 991's
2) People don't realize a new Honda will cost MORE to buy now
3) People don't know how old our cars are
This causes those who don't know to ASSUME we paid a fortune for our new Porsches, and that we are a$$es.

Actually I was only playing on the stereotype as I've only been once since its not my type of thing.

Looks like I need to head to the west coast. Don't care if more girls go under the knife out that way, at least they're pleasant on the eyes. If I go into an establishment like that, there should be at least some "good" looking girls. I for sure wouldn't be going there for 100% of the food.

I can only wish this was the case but I would have to disagree. However since all things are cyclic, if we hold onto our cars for 10-20 years, I'm sure Porsche's latest iteration at that time would probably mirror our headlights by then.

OK, maybe not brand new 991's, but recent 997's for sure - headlight shape be damned!
