Default clutch lifespan with regular driving

Ok, so what's the typical life of this clutch with regular driving. My clutch was changed by previous owner at like 56,000.

All depends on the driver. I'm at 62k miles so far on the original. I easily got over 100k miles in a Saab SPG.

That is because Steve drives Miss Daisy around the track.

I'm at 84k and it JUST started to slip, and it has been driven pretty regularly (it's a '99), so in my experience, 83.9k

Mine needed replacement when I bought it at 38k. Depends entirely on how you drive, though my mechanic says 996 clutches don't last as long as many other cars.

I have had five previous Porsches as listed below and all went over 100,000 miles on the original clutch. My 996 needed a new clutch at 48,000 miles . Only difference I know of is that I bought the car with 4,000 miles and my wife drives it on an occasional basis.

You do see a lot of these cars having new clutches installed at relatively low mileage.

Once you see how small the 996 clutch is, it will be clear why they don't last as much as all the other cars on the road. The surface area of the disk is slightly larger than a Civic and has to hold 300hp.

My '99 needed a new motor at 45K miles so I bought a new disc, PP and T/O brng. for the dealer to install. I measured the friction material of the original disc and it was about 60% good. I installed the new stuff anyway and think I could have easily made over 100K miles.

Another way to put it in my case the clutch lasted over twice as long as the motor. Motor failed due to intermix, cracked cylinder. Lucky to get it goodwilled in its 7th year, 3 years after warranty expired and being the second owner. It was a bit of work though.

Did you measure the total thickness of the disk or the distance between the top of the rivets and the top of the disk? Unlike brake pads, the clutch disk can't wear down to the metal centre plate. The rivet heads will fist contact the flywheel and pressure plate and at that point, the clutch will start slipping more and more.
