Default Scratch on seat plate. Can it be fixed?

I have a 2000 996 with Savana leather interior. The car is in excellent condition except for a few very little nit pick things. The one that bothers me most is on left side of the drivers seat. There is a small scratch on the plastic (?) piece that the seat adjusters are on.

It looks like the previouse owner went to adjust the seat fowrard or backward and he scratched the Savana color off the plastic. It now shows the black plastic (?) under the Savana color. I'll see if I can get a pic of it tonight.

What can I do to fix it? Does anyone sell replacement plates? I'd even go to a brushed silver plate if that's all there is. There are other hints of silver in the car and I think it would match.

If you dont want to remove and prep it, you could probably touch it up with one of the little chip repair paint bottles. I doubt anyone but you would notice.

Clean the area with rubbing alcohol. Then use this kit: http://www.leatherrepairkits.com/porsche.htm

If you are very skilled you can get it to blend just using a brush. I got a $20 airbrush kit from habor freight to feather the color for perfect repair.

Those parts chip very easily. There's something about the soft-feel paint on them that chips off with minimal contact.

Contact these guys they make the dye that can be used on anything in the interior, exact color match. I'm on my third can, my seats and trim always look showroom new. I love the results.

Do you just unscrew the screws and pull the item off the seat?

Looks like this is the part number:
996.613.719.01
And the cover is apparently integrated with the entire seat switch mechanism... So it is expensive. New is $515, used from dcAuto in Savannah Beige is $413.

I would contact your local dealer's service department and find out who they use for interior repair/recondition. That is probably an easy fix that the dealer can arrange for you. A good guy can airbrush the entire part for a very smooth, professional look that touch up stuff can't match. I just had the soft touch rubber on my BMW's M sport steering wheel refinished and was amazed at the result.

Looks like you can just touch it up since new parts are so expensive!

I advise driving it more. When you're driving it, you won't be able to see this little imperfection. :-)

Anyone know how to remove the plastic seat adjuster panel from the seat?

I unscrewed the two screws and I can pull the bottom of the panel out a bit, but I can't completely separate the panel from the seat and I don't want to break anything.

Quick Reply: Scratch on seat plate. Can it be fixed?
