K&N intake and water ingress
Hey guys,
what's the consensus on water ingress to the intake area for the K&N kit? Seems like there might be a risk of water getting through the grates.
Please keep out the omg your maf dies the day you order the kit comments.

Nothing to worry about. If you're in a situation where enough water is getting sucked up to damage the engine, you probably have a much larger problem on your hands than the intake sucking in water.

The K&N has a sock like cover that goes over the filter element that repels water. I don't use it as I don't usually drive in the rain, and in my mind, it would restrict the improved air flow the filter supposedly gives you.

I've had multiple cars over the years with vented hoods that had the filter exposed directly to rain/snow that I drove that way year round, and I live in Seattle.

I had a K&N in mine, never had a problem with it taking on water in the 6 months I had it installed and daily driven. But as most say I did have problems with my MAF, I would always get a MAF code thrown when the oil from the filter would gum up the sensor. Yes I cleaned the filter numerous times, I won't say K & N intakes are bad, the piping is alright, but I would highly suggest a dry AEM cone filter for the unit.
