Default Best CEL ever!

Pulled into the garage last night and just before shutting the car down it threw a CEL. Not a great way to start a Monday. Drove to my Indy to have the code read. Verdict...missing gas cap. I am a dumba$$.

Been there, done that and got a T-shirt. Not a dumbass Learned a lesson and will not happen again.
Not having the oil filler cap on correctly also throws the CEL, done that too.

I had one almost as bad:

I topped off 1/2 quart oil on the way out to breakfast on a beautiful South Florida afternoon car starts to run "wierd", then gets worse and starts throwing cells. I almost lost my breaqkfast and luckily I catch my Indy at the shop on a Saturday morning and ask if I can swing by for a quick ODB read. Hooks it up car is throwing every cell in the book and bank 1, bank 2, etc... then his face and mine start looking concerned and a bit dumbfounded. I fianlly ask him what in the world could throw all these codes and he starts mentally going down a list one of which is "air is getting into the system somehow" and a light bulb goes off in my head. I left the oil cap off

We both had a laugh and put it back restared and all was good to go

I've done the gas cap, my first Cel with this car, RL helped on that one.

Recently, I had just replaced water pump, burped system, and suddenly Cel.. Hook up piwis cable, maf hot film, air intake temp, are the codes etc. Turn car off, open engine compartment, and realize I forgot to hook maf back up.. Hook it up, clear codes, no problems since. I felt like an idiot, but glad it was nothing serious.

In looking thru all the records I got from the previous owner of my 996TT, I see several instances where he took the car in for a CEL and the soluton was "gas cap not tightened - tighten gas cap". Apparently he never learned his lesson and just went straight to the dealer for them to tighten the cap for him.
