Oil change kit ... who's got the cheapest price nowadays ? (C4S)
Hey all,
I'm approaching the oil change mark and want to get it wrapped out over thanksgiving - who has the best prices for oil + filter (interwebs or otherwise). Any input is appreciated.

I have found the cheapest price for oil (Mobil 1 and please don't go down that road!) at Wal-Mart. I buy the five quart containers...mine usually takes two plus about 1/2 quart more. I get my oil filter at Autozone, but I do have to admit that I have the LN adapter plate so I use a spin on oil filter. I know they stock the other one as well.

I recently got my Mobil 1 5 quarts (or is it liters?) at a local independent auto parts store. They had $12 MIR that put the price on par with Wally World. I'm not a huge fan of MIRs, but it was returned wicked fast, and they honored multiple purchases.

My owner's manual says oil change quantity with filter approx. 8.7 quarts. Since my filter is a bit bigger it takes a little bit more. I always fill to the full up line on the dipstick after running the car and letting it sit for a a little while. Many oil changes and experience has yielded the 10 quarts plus a little bit more. I suppose I could forgo "the little bit more" but I like to keep the level to the full mark all the time for two reasons: (1) oil is the lubricant but also serves to help cool, so I figure the more circulating the better, and (2) one quart out of 9 is approximately 11% so if you are down a quart that is 11% of your total capacity that should be circulating to do it's job. The important thing is to (1) change the oil/filter often, and (2) use the dipstick for your final measurement rather than a strict rule. Even the owner's manual says "approx." After you do several oil changes with your unique vehicle you'll have it down to a science.

Good deal for Oil change with Mobile 1
Unfortunately, no Pep boys near Memphis TN (HQ for Autozone) , but others may want to take advantage of this.

I usually order a 10 filters a year to cover my two cousins, and my P-car's for oil changes. i am a pretty firm believer in OEM filters after disecting some of the fram, napa, and other junk filters out there, Whether it is Nissan, Honda, Motocraft, or Porsche I stick with OEM, and with my discount at the dealership it works out to $10.49 CAD which isn't much more expensive than the aftermarket stuff. This is one place i dont think saving a whole $3 is worth it.

I am a firm believer in certain OEM stuff... I have never seen a more robust OEM oil filter than for my Lexus (toyota), but I pass on Honda filters since they appear to be complete crap. I ordered Hengst (Oem provider) filters from Pelican to go with my Motul 8100Xcess purchase from Amazon noted above with free shipping... a good deal for Porsche approved oil for those of use who have no big-box stores who carry the 5W-40 I have decided to use.
