Default Burp Valve Won't go down???

Just changed water pump, opened burp valve (flipped silver ring/switch to the middle, which raised valve), drove around for a few miles, and then went to close valve...now it won't close. The silver ring/switch moves, but the valve that raises up won't go down...anything I'm missing? Seemed simple enough, but I've defeated myself apparently.

Thanks,

DS

It won't go down because of the pressure of the hot coolant. It will go down by itself once cooled.

Yeah, after I thought about it I figured that was the most likely case, but wanted to make sure that mine wasn't somehow defective.

Thanks Ahsai!

Concur with Ahsai - proper function it goes up when the engine is hot and down when it cools.

It's black and on the top of the coolant tank close to the coolant cap. It has a metal wire on it.

The "burp" part is when the bail is up holding the valve open while the engine cools down and gets reheated on the next drive. It won't "burp" if the bail is laying down in the, normal operating, position. There is also a procedure for bleeding the air out of the system after it has been partially or fully drained. It has to due with, warming the car to operating temp, then running the RPM up and down a number of times, holding it at higher RPM for some time period and idling for some time, while the Burp valve is open.
Look at the end of this radiator procedure on Pedros garage site
