Default Upgrading to LN magnetic oil plug - still use sealing ring?

I'm about to change the oil and am upgrading the oil drain plug with the LN magnetic plug. Seems like a silly question, but just to be sure...Using the new plug still requires the aluminum sealing ring, correct?

Thanks!

Nevermind. Finally found the info at LN site. For others, yes, use the sealing ring (as I had figured).

I put a the LN magnetic plug in last oil change, and can't wait to see how it works regarding ferrous whiskers.

And torque is 19 ft-lbs, not the 37 that Pelican lists on their website.

You wanna hope you don't see anything........which is the singular advantage of NOT using one.....

During your oil filter change, you should still cut the filter open to look for metal bits.

There are always going to be some ferrous particles collected, just a question of how much.

Several years ago I glued (JB Weld) a high strength magnet to a spare aluminum drain plug and put it through heat and cold cycles before putting it into my case after an oil change. Don't be surprised to find very little ferrous stuff attaching to it during the course of 6000 miles of usage. Many components within the engines today are non-ferrous and will simply never be attracted to the magnet. Cutting open the oil filter is the better collector of all bits. (I basically abandoned the magnetic plug because it was not collecting anything).
