Oh I've seen worse. Not an easy repair, but that'll be fine. It's a sturdy chassis.

Unhappy That'll leave a mark

First time posting -- got the car a couple of weeks ago and finally got it registered just last Friday. Beautiful Zenith Blue 2000 996. Very clean car, full records, 66K miles. Sport suspension, heated seats....

I had hoped to be asking questions about maintenance and upkeep, instead I get to ask about this:

Driving down a secondary road and I get T-boned in an intersection at 40 MPH. The other driver was pulling out from a side street, looked both ways at the stop sign, and then just continued into traffic. He hit between the center of the right rear wheel and the center of the door. Airbag didn't deploy, but the door won't open which is never a good sign. The rear wheel is a bit toe-in which also isn't good. The good news is that we did a very nice 180 across both lanes of traffic without ending up in the ditch on either side of the road and I finished facing a flat-bed tow truck which was right behind me.

So what do you think? How bad is it? Anybody want to take a guess before I head off to the adjustor?

That sucks! Such a beautiful car. My guess is $5-7k easily.

Sorry to see this and welcome to Rennlist!

First, glad you are OK. Get a used door and they can probably pull the dent out from the side. Question is the subframe. I would not think it is totaled. If they do, ask what the buy back is. Sorry about the damage.

Wow, what a bummer. Sorry to see this happen to anyone, let alone a new member.

Depending on what you do with the car/repair, you might want to also check into the "dimunition of value" aspect of this accident and if it is even recognized in your state.

there is no way anyone can tell how bad until it comes apart - i would mandate the very best PORSCHE ONLY shop do the repairs - DO NOT allow them to take short cuts or send you to "their shop"

Gonna be down for a few months - get a rental... and better be making it a real car with an original sticker above $50k

I think it could be fixed - it will also hurt resale so make sure they give you $ for "diminished value" do a search on that

it's a car, glad the driver is OK

First of all welcome to Rennlist GeorgeCo, too bad about your accident, but your post seems to suggest you are in control of your emotions. No doubt there will be damage yet undiscovered by the exterior damage as shown in your post. Be sure that the work is done by someone already familiar with Porsches. Hang in there, if it isn't totaled you may still get your beautiful Porsche back and running well. GL

Welcome to Rennlist and very sorry to hear about your misfortune. I agree with those above that say that it is impossible to guess by looking at a picture. But, in the spirit of the original post, I hate to say it, but having seen this kind of hit before, they may total it out.

If they go ahead and repair it, that is a very tough color to match and my require blending a much larger area than just the damage. The costs go up dramatically if there is suspension, subframe damage.

Did the side airbag deploy? That adds a bunch more to the cost as well.

Glad you are keeping a level head about it. Keep us posted!

Damn, man. Sorry to see this. I wish I had a good bodyshop recommendation for you, but the last three I've dealt with all sucked. Where are you in Maryland?

I had a brick hit just behind my driver's headlight (don't ask) and left a ding the size of a deck of cards. Just that cost $3k. You're at least double, if not more. Good luck, and welcome to RL.

If you can get the car totalled, get it totalled, then haggle with the insurance company for the highest price, its all negotiable. Take the money and buy another one. Its a buyers market. Theres plenty of cars out there at good prices

A repaired car will never be the same, no matter how good the repair and of course the resale value will be compromised.

Not bad to consider this option, depending on the estimate. But as the previous poster said, demand only the best body shop. Call the local Ferrari and Porsche dealers and find out who they use. PCA is always a good resource for this question as well.

What a bummer... welcome to Rennlist!

Thanks for the advice and many kind words. I live near Frederick MD. I'll get the estimate on Monday. Besides a body shop, any recommendations on a good mechanic in Frederick or Northern Montgomary county would be appreciated.

Ralph's is in Owings Mills, which is a bit of a drive for you, but he's good, fair and only speaks Porsche.
