he has checked motor for Targa, replaced Battery
things affected point to ECU has anyone anything to suggest to aide his search for a fix?

Jumping the battery was a big mistake. You may have damaged the ECU. Your mate needs to get ready to make his mechanics next house payment

First id remove battery and get it tested. Assuming battery checks ok you have a short somewhere that is draining battery. Could be fried ecu. From jumping but you could start to eliminate things by removing fuses one at a time from the circuits effected and watch battery voltage with mulimeter ... if that does not point to problem time to go to indie for better diagnosis ...

To update
Replaced Targa ECU and normal service resumed.
