Default Bixenon light question.

On a 996 mkII with bixenons When you flip the lights on do they go up and down like on a cayenne? Can't remember if it did that pre accident?

No codes and I can activate the motors with the durametric.

Thanks!

They go up and down when you first start the car, whether the headlights are on or off.

If you put your headlight switch to the on position and then start the car, you'll see them move.

Thanks Dennis, just tested and working fine.
I was just flipping the lights on with the car already running. My cayenne has auto lights so they come on with the car and I always see them move.

My Cayenne does too. I remember once thinking that maybe something was wrong with the C4S when I didn't see them move, so I know exactly what you mean.

Just paranoid that the body shop missed something but so far they did a fantastic job.

Marc the up and down is a function of the self levelling action on the HID lights. Normal.

Bob, I knew that, my concern was that it was not doing it.
I though it did t when the lights were turned on but Dennis informed mt it was when the car is fired up.

Since HID lights are so much brighter overall, plus per watt expended, the feds required auto-leveling to reduce possible interference with on-coming traffic. Self-leveling systems go through a calibration procedure each and eveny time you start the car. Earlly 996 HID hi/lo systems, like my 2001 C4, simply use the auto-leveling servomotor to move the HID beam pattern upward for high beam and downward for low beam.

Newer HID projector systems use a solenoid to move the beam's upper level cut-off shading apperture out of the way in high beam mode. Much more effective.

You know, I remember reading that too, but always wondered why there is an additional bulb directly under the HID, that only lights when on high beam. Also, you can manually adjust the "set" height for the cut off shutter to where ever you want, too low or blinding on coming traffic, the auto level does nothing to prevent or correct that. The auto leveling just assures the light goes to that same relative spot when different loads are applied to the car that would cause the front end to tilt up or down, and change the ligth position.
