Default Emergency fix for tail light harness.

I started my car last night and the cruise control green light didn't turn on. I also noticed that my rear right tail light is not working. I opened it and found out that the harness and not the bulb is broken. I searched the web and ordered one for $200. The problem is it would take about a week to order it and I don't want to be cited for driving without tail lights.
So I tried to open and fix it since it was already broken.
Here's what I did:
1. Unscrew the nut holding the tail light, and gently slide it out towards the engine to pul it out.

2. I took out the broken bulb holder and found out that the metal connector is detached. The bulb is sealed by a rubber glue so I pried it with a small screw driver. It is soft but annoying to remove.

3. There are three wires connected to the bulb holder and I just solder the red and black wires to the contact points of the bulb. I left the brown wire intact. I had to place a zip tie around the bulb and solder it. Caution the bulb can get too hot.

I reassemble it but it did not light on at first. I checked the fuses and apparently the fuses for the rear tail light and cruise control beside it had blown, so I run over to my local dealer and replaced it. Voila ....it worked.

I just now have to rubber seal it later after work. I might also try to cancel my order for the harness.
Solder iron =$10 from radioshack. I just saved $190 bucks. Priceless.

I love my Porsche it is so easy to work on.

Good for you. Nice when you can fix it yourself. Thanks for the DIY.

Wow, great work!

Just a tip, if you bought the harness with a credit card, you should be able to call your credit card company if it's a visa/amex, and they will take the charge off if you call them within 30 days, even if the merchant won't.
