Cup holders started appearing on '01 models in which it took a whole DIN space. They were redesigned to be slimmer and take up less space and becoming a standard item starting in '02+ cars. I'm assuming you have either '99 or '00 model. You can retrofit the '01 as they have kits or you can buy used on eBay.

Any idea where I might find the retrofit kits?

I wanted to put in a double-din gps unit... so i can't really use the singe-din cup holders.

They may well have been stock. Mine had several option packages (black full leather, advanced technic pkg, heated front seats pkg, & power seat pkg), but I don't believe any of those specifically call out the cupholders.

Personally I think they're a poor design. Particularly if you plan on putting a double-DIN head unit right underneath. Think about it for a sec...you've got a several hundred dollar head unit sitting right underneath a couple flimsy drink holders. Murphy tells us that it's probably not going to end well.

I thought about it being about the radio.. not real fond of it.. but not entirely sure where else to put cup holders.

Honestly, I don't allow food or drink in my car anyway, so it's not really a factor

This is my wife's "toy" car. Not may bells and whistles and it being a 2000 it isn't really in top shape..
