Issue with G9601 transmission
Hi all,
I posted the below on Renntech a couple of days ago and I'd like to see if i get more replies here. New to the Porsche world, just bought a 40th anniversary a week ago
Hi!
this is my first post here as I have owned my first Porsche for less than a week... and I already have an issue!
My transmission (std 6spd) is making a loud noise in first gear.
When I drive I can here the noise only if I accelerate, but as you can see in the video, it happens also at idle.
No noise in any other gear or if I press the clutch
Any idea on what this could be? And how to fix?
To be noted:
previous owner had the transmission rebuilt recently to fix the 2nd gear issue
however car was already making the noise before the rebuild
it is currently filled with non-synthetic 75W90 (not sure of brand) -> should I try to use a 75W140?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ohHYA...ature=youtu.be
Thanks for the feedback!
Since then:
- someone suggested it could be flywheel related
- I have replaced my transmission oil with some valvoline synthetic 75W140, not much change (gear change a bit less smooth, but a bit more locking in the LSD, mesured with torque wrench)

I recently had my gearbox rebuilt because of the pinion shaft bearings had eaten them selves.
But I had no knocking like that.
Throw out beating maybe?
Sorry im just guessing. I'm not sure what that is but it sounds expensive.
Best get it checked before it eats it's self!
Good luck

Does the car move away from a stop with no juddering? Clunks or such.
When you upshift or downshift do you ever hear a clunk?
Does the noise change as the engine's temp changes or is it the same when the engine is cold, warm, or hot? If it changes it could be -- long shot -- an exhaust leak. Exhaust leaks can mimic the noise from other areas of the engine. The exhaust leak would have to be downstream of the converters/sensors to avoid tripping the CEL.
Sincerely,
Macster.

not much juddering but I did notice a light clunk when shifting or getting off the gaz. Very light.
The noise doesn't change much with engine temp - or at least the noise comes in within the first couple of minutes (hard to tell since it is only in first gear)
if it is the flywheel, why would the noise only appear in first gear?
Also, as you can see from the video it is very clear that the noise is coming from the gearbox area, and you can feel the shake if you put your hand on the gearbox. Definitely not exhaust related!

For starters put the correct Trans oil in it, Porsche accept no substitute!
