Default New Radio in 996

I needed to have bluetooth in my 996 and was not able to find a way to do it with the stock Cr-220, so I went looking.

Ended up with the Kenwood KIV-BT901. It has the bluetooth functionality I needed and I also ended up having a backup camera installed as well, since this unit supported it. Tons of other functions.

Since I have seen many other radio threads, thought I would post a picture with the wallpaper customization I configured it with.

This photo really does not do it justice as the flash makes the plastic look cheep. Much better in person. I was also able to match the color the unit uses to the other controls in the car.

What harness did you use when installing the radio?

I have the BT900 and hate it. Does not have streaming BT like it hinted at. Looking at going double DIN now for better options. I like the background though you put on it.

I just ordered the BT901 and have an installation question. In looking through its manual I read that there is "parking brake" signal wire which needs to be connected (and indicating that the pb is set during operation) for the unit to play video.

Is that signal wire available behind the dash? And if so, where? Or did you just short that wire to some other "always on" signal wire so that video can be played at any time?

The parking brake wire is under the center console. You might look on ebay to see whether there is a parking brake bypass device that you connect into the unit which convinces it that the parking brake is always on.

Any particular reason you chose a single DIN instead of a double DIN?

How does the Pandora work? Does this radio connect to your Smart Phone. I keep forgetting to measure data usage on my Iphone while listening to Pandora so I can estimate how long I listen to Pandora on trips. BTW - I have a limited data plan.

In regards to double vs single din - does you console have a plastic divider between the top and bottom din slot? My 2001 does. The double din "GPS" factory console of course has no center divider and no fastener holes set up like on the two single din slots. At least that is what I have learned in my pursuit of going the double din route.
