996 Transmissions
Hi,
What are the differences, if any, between the 99-01 (G96/00) and 02-04 (G96/01) 996 C2 transmissions?
Thanks,
Eric

Don't know if there is any physical differance in the transmissions. What I am reading on Page 237 of (Essential Companion) is the G96/00 went in the Carrera Coupe and Carrera Cabriolets from 1997 to and including 2001. The G96/01 went into the Carrera Coupe, Cabriolet, Targa and the 911 Anniverary model from 2002 until 2005. I take it that all are rear wheel drives as another transmission # was used for the 4wds during the same years or at least 99 onwards. Hope that helps.
My understand is that the 2002-2004 (G96/01) 996 transmission was beefed up a little and had a better heat treated main shaft. It was more durable (bullet proof) then the Mk1 unit.
