Default Sporadic Starting When Hot

Any 996 owners experience hard to start 996 despite new battery? Car starts with ease when it's cold but it's hit or miss when engine temp is at optimal running level. The challenge with starting is especially troublesomey following re-fueling or a quick stop where engine is off for a few minutes or less. The car will restart If allowed to sit for a few minutes. No issues with check engine light and I recently installed a new battery.

Very perplexed.....

My car did that at one point, and a new starter fixed the issue for me (was actually covered under CPO).

Possibly the voltage regulator on the alternator.

I had the same issue and after two batteries and three testing of the alternator I replaced the starter and problem solved. Pull you alternator and have it tested, if it tests good consider replacing your starter. Lot of DIY information on it.

Several people have found the power line running to the starter deteriorates over time due to heat. It's difficult to see unless you have things apart. Do a search and you should be able to kick up some information. I recall a good thread in which the poster showed the damage.

Similar issue here, turned out it was the coolant sensor.

Does it crank and just not start, or does it fail to crank?

+1. Fairly common concern, even on the 997's.

Another possibility is the crankshaft position sensor (also known as impulse sender).

Wow......Lot's to consider. I'm going to go down the line of suggestions including a new starter. I'll post my progress.

Mine has also been giving me a slow start when hot. IMO it's "heat sink" on the starter. All my cables are good, and just cleaned the engine to chassis ground. I'm gonna wrap the starter with heat shield and see if it works. If it does, it's only a band-aid as the starter is prob on it's way out
