You are not suppose to put 911's through car washes, EVER!

1) disconnect the battery,
2) open the air box and see how wet the filter is
3) wait a couple hours till the engine is totally dry
4) cross your fingers and try again

I'd bet your battery contacts are poor; get your front hood popped open with jumper cables per the owner's manual, and undo and reconnect the wires to the terminals on your battery and see if you're back in action. Water can get around that area if you spray water hard enough!

If I understand you correctly then, no windows/no starter but everything else works? Dry it out thoroughly. While we're waiting for it to dry start checking fuses. And see if you can get any scan codes.

I recently had an issue with my cab, the roof drainage points were blocked and it flooded into the passenger rear foot well.
Apparently there is some rather expensive modules under the seats which handle the central looking/ alarm I was told.
Have you checked the carpets to see if they are dry and also when did you last get your drainage cleared.

Good luck - sounds expensive whatever it is

Jack

I autobell twice weekly. Autobell is an automated car wash chain in NC. Never an issue and I hope to never have an issue with my daily driver, in the rain, snow, parked outside at the airport everyday car.

I have never put any of my Porsches through a car wash (personally I like to inspect my vehicle closely as i hand wash it), sorry to disagree but the whole thing about not putting 911's (or Porsche paint) through a car was is a bit of a myth.

I have friends that regularly auto wash their 911's and their cars look pretty damn good after years of doing it routinely.

I've run mine through a car wash twice, but i prefer to hand wash it. No harm done but the car wash though.

I'm confused though. At first you said you were driving, then you said a friend had it. If the latter, I'm not sure you really know what happened to your car.

Hope it works out, but I'd be surprised if a car wash caused the problem.

Hello everyone. First post to go with my first Porsche!

Sorry to hijack this thread but I've got a 996 Cabrio 02 and I'm having exactly the same issue... Leak flooded the rear passenger seat and footwell (I took out over half a bucket of water). First symptoms were the alarm going off for no reason.

The strange thing is that I took it out for a 15 min drive with the heater on full and windows down to help dry it out. I parked the car and the next day it wouldn't start.

I peeled back the rear carpets and the sponge underneath them was still soaking so I've been trying to dry it out with a hair dryer for a few days. Its (carpet/sponge) almost totally dry apart from some edges but it still wont start.

In the meantime I've also changed the battery as that was only showing about 10 volts. Also tried to jump start it using the terminals in the engine bay but still wont start.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Start a new thread of your problem.
Disconnect the battery. Pull the alarm module out from under the passenger’s seat. Open it up and dry out the inside. If it was just wet you might be able to save it. If the water has been in there too long you might have terminal & PWB corrosion.
