DIY: Install front dash speakers
My first DIY, hope this helps someone out there.
I ordered a set of Focal 100CA1 from Crutchfield for 89$ shipped.

Great deal for these speakers IMO. They sound much better than stock, even without installing a new amp.
Step 1:
Using a torx 20, and a small ratchet wrench, remove the speakers from your dash.
Old next to the new ones
Step 2:
Using a soldering iron, unsolder all the wires from the speaker, you can unsolder the wires from the tweeter as well.
Step 3:
Using a small phillips screw driver, remove the 3 screws holding the speaker to the grill.
Here you can see the difference in speakers
Step 4:
Using an exactoblade, cut the old speaker out of the cage.
Step 5:
Using a dremel, cut along the cage and remove the magnet out of the cage.
Make sure you clean it up nicely, no sharp edges, etc.
Here you can see how nicely it will fit in the cage.
Step 6:
Using a dremel, cut the cabs off, I left a millimeter or two just incase.
Step 7:
Pop it in the cage.
Step 8:
Close it up.
Lessons learned:
- Dremel + Plastic = messy and stinks, do it outside if you can, my fiancee did not appreciate it :P
I am not responsible if you **** something up, this is a step by step (minus my mistakes :P) of what I did. Take it with a grain of salt.

I'm not much of a stereo buff, but I know enough to be dangerous. I just wonder how long these speakers will last being run off the stock Bose amp since they're 4ohm?
Or is your car a non-Bose car?

Reviving this excellent thread to hopefully get some responses to open questions on this installation answered:
1. Are the original tweeters used?
2. Is silicone sealant used to attach the Focals to the cage?
3. Anything special regarding the electrical connection or is it "plug n play"
Yesterday, I ordered two sets of Focal 100CA1 from WoofersEtc.com for $261 shipped (including 9.75% Republic of CA sales tax) and they are being delivered tomorrow (ain't the Internet great?). My '04 GT3 has the basic stereo with no MOST nor amp so I was able to install a "vintage" SONY CDX-M630 head unit.
Best part is great sound with a stock look. The SONY unit's display remains dark unless you are using the remote - I'm not much into dash based light shows.

Hi All,
Reviving this thread. I do not have the Bose Stereo (i dont even have speakers in my doors) and I want to upgrade my dashboard speakers. I plan to buy some updated 4" coaxial speakers but how will I wire them? Is the stock tweeter still going to be used?
Thanks

you can buy just woofer and replace the stock woofer, or buy coax speaker and replace the woofer and it wont matter if you use the tweeter or not, just wire it in with the wires as is. Main reason is that whether it is 4 or 8 ohm its not going to be so critical to the system that it will hurt or effect anything
I would recommend finding one that fits w/out modifying

I just realized that when I installed the dash speakers and rear 4” speakers I instinctively I connected the small spade connectors to negative and the larger ones to positive, as I’ve done with every speaker I ever installed.
apparently Bose uses the small connectors for positive. Now I have to redo all 6 speakers, not really a big deal except for the doors.
just a heads up. I realize I should of checked the wiring diagram beforehand. Never assume.
