Man that's one nice looking porshe but that's terrible news. If it were me, I would be happy it happened during the first 100 miles. Because if it was longer than that, you open your self up to people accusing you that it had to be something you did. (Even though someone has anyway) Some dealers have a 24 hour to 30 day return policy on there cars. Would be nice to call them to come pick it up and say no deal. Or like Joe Pesci....I think I want my money back. Thanks for sharing that's what makes this forum informative. And best of luck to you. 100 miles, I wouldn't fork out a dime if the is was bought from a legitimate shop.

Sorry I missed that part. In that case the Joe Pesci from Casino move would definately work. Your a good sport and with great attitude. Once again hope it works out and looking forward to your next thread after its up and running.

I really hope things work out for you as that has to be the worst luck in a Porsche this year that I've heard about.
If it's any consolation, my slightly used Aprilia bike a few years ago dropped a few valves within a couple hundred miles of ownership. At that time, Piaggio was acquiring Aprilia and their parts department was temporarily shut down during the merger. It took me over 1 year to obtain all the parts and another year to put it all back together. I guess the good thing about your situation is that parts are available and there are several options for you.

Might explain Hurdi's "crankiness"!
Hey Gonzo if you think I am cranki now.. You should have known me when I did drink back in the 80s...
There you all are sucking up and all thinking "Glad it didn't happen to my car"..Don't tell me it didn't even 'CROSS YOUR MINDS".. Chicken B S None of you had the guts to speak out his mind and get to the bottom of this incident as I did. I wanted to find out just what really happened as I have a car with the same engine in it as this guys. So now we know, he didn't race the engine or over rev it for prolonged periods. He didn't have loud music so he couldn't hear the engine, He didn't slip up in his gear chnaging at the wrong speeds. He did everything right. The only thing he did wrong was not covering it with a warranty. I apoligised to him for speaking out but got part of my answer. Reverse psychology we call it. I will renew my extended warranty when mine runs out in 2 years time. This incident re-enforces that need. nuff said.

You say you 'heard something weird' so you stopped and then it dropped the oil. What did you hear above your radio (as I assume you had the radio blaring with you being a young dude) who seems to be more interested in modding out a car EVEN before picking it up? I see you were offered a great deal of extended warrenty but you chose to keep your money in the bank. Taken from one of your prevuious postings. 3 years/36,000 miles $3575 ALL WITH $250 deductible per visit .
WHAT CAN I SAY…You preferred to spend your money on modding rather than on protection knowing these 996 had occassional problems. Theres an old saying in my family "You can't put an old head on young shoulders". Sorry for your problems Hope you get things sorted out.
The PO might have known this was about to happen. The filter could have been changed without the oil being changed at the same time. Not that it's going to do you any good but a PO could have known and covered up by a recent oil and filter change and the PPI would never have found it anyway. You sure its a bearing problem and not a piston flying somewhere it shouldn't have as you revved the **** out of this car in the first 100 miles. ??????????????????????? People on this board speak there minds. So do I.....right or wrong. That is M H O![soapbox](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/soapbox.gif)

Douchenozzle of the year! What's up your butt, pal? To have the audacity to make such a post given the OP's horrible misfortune and then to criticize the simple replacement of clear side markers as "mods" when you have those ridiculous stickers on your car....truly unbelievable. I've never even HEARD of such a low-class Brit before today.

Look, this guy definitely had bad luck. It happens I guess, but even if he got on the freeway and "drove it like he stole it" as we are so often proud to say, the car should have held up. My biggest concern is this. What the heck does his wife think about the new car? If I dropped $30k on a car and the engine blew up in the first hour of driving, well, it would be hard to convince her that a Porsche should be in the garage. So SacTown, what is the story there (and you might as well post a pic of your wife since we will ask sooner or later!)

I truly feel bad for the guy. It appears he did everything reasonable and was looking forward to being the proud new owner of a great car. And being a C4S cab with the low miles on it, I am guessing it cost a lot more than $30k, maybe something north of 40k??? I don't think anyone should expect cars with mid 30's miles that have been maintained to experience catastrophic engine failures. Having recently purchased a 2004 C4S with low mileage myself, I have to say this sent shivers up my spine. Was if definitely diagnosed as IMS?

For the time being I think I will skip posting a picture of my wife as suggested above. I am very happy with her and how she looks. She was a song girl/cheerleader at the University of Oregon 20 years ago. So for whatever that's worth there you go.
She was ok with the money spent ($40k) last week which included the car, new tires, alignment, hose, fluids, and my fancy "mod" (replacement of pumpkins). She is less thrilled about the idea of dropping more cash but she's still very supportive.
I hope to have a meaningful update this week but I just don't know. Things are progressing. Seller has gone to Porsche and he says they were supportive of coming up with something. However, no monetary numbers discussed yet.
They need to confirm it's IMS as my PPI mechanic has concluded. He's a Porsche only mechanic so I think it's safe to assume, he will be right, and it will be IMS.
