If you search the forum there are a lot of posts on putting in double DIN radio. I put in Pioneer AVH3200BT - which gives you all the features you need - is navi upgradable if you want - and has selectable illumination modes - including orange to match the instruments. You can even Flash the Porsche logo onto the screen so it looks semi-OEM ! To put in the double DIN unit - you need to move the AC controls down to the lower slot (I removed the CD trays) and you can get a fit kit for about $50 from ebay (I forgot the name of the vendor but you can find it with a quick search) that has porsche bezel that matches nicely - or your local installer can fashion a bezel from ABS and paint it to match. This works best on '02 and older cars - pre MOST (fiber) system. I didn't see a single DIN unit that fits or looks better. I paid $800 - including cost to fit it. If you DIY - probably can do for around 1/2 that. You also need VW/AUdi wiring harness adapter if I recall correctly - most audio shops have those.

Euro Motorspeed through their eBay store sells the cubby shelf, Porsche logo bezel and complete installation kits for double din units.

I have the Pioneer AVIC-930bt. Works great.

Ditch the MOST. Ditch the Bose. Do not dither. Put in good speakers, amp and sub. Your life will be sublime

You can bypass MOST quite easily. The speaker connections are copper wire. MOST only connects the head unit to the CDC. If you replace the head unit and the CDC, then MOST doesn't matter.

I'm with Doug on the sports exhaust option. I may be the only 996 owner who is happy with my OEM sound system, which has the factory Hi-Fi option. My only complaint is with poor AM reception that might be due to interference from my Laser Diffuser and Radar Detector. I added iPod integration and never play CDs anymore. The sound is very good, even over the Fister D's. I guess I'm old-fashioned, but I like the OEM look of the CDR220 and I'm not a big fan of double-din systems.

*tracking*

I have MOST and even have the Dension Unit. Don't have Bose or CDC obviously. So I'm guessing that I just need to replace the head unit w/ the Double Din and wiring harness and bypass the amp as well since the head unit probably has an amp already.

I just spoke with Becker Autosound (www.beckerautosound.com) yestrday, and they have a single DIN Becker Grand Prix with BT and std ipod connector/charger for $650. You can get an adapter that permits ipod control from head unit for an extra $150. Quite pricey, and no NAV, but it looks very close to original.

I decided to stick with my Becker CR-220 and just add the ipod connector/charger cable for $110.
