I just went back from Sumis to PS2s. Personally, I feel that the car handles better with the PS2s and the PS2s are definitely quieter. For the money, the Sumi is a very good tire. The same can be said about the Hankook. However, I just like the PS2 better. Sumis and Hankooks make quite a bit of noise at the end of their life. It's not a status thing or an elitist thing. 99.99% of people don't notice what kind of tires you are running, and of the ones that do, 99.99% don't care.

The Mich PS2 or PSS are far superior to the Sumi's and Hankooks.

I have run all 4 and can easily sum it up for you.

PS2&PSS weak in the wet but acceptable. Far superior in every other application.

V12 a good all around tire but a bit squishy on the side wall. 8 Laps before they get mushy and over heat.

Sumi's III good all around tire with a hard side wall. Not a very pleasant daily ride. Road irregularities just pound the car. On the track they get about 10 laps before becoming mushy and overheat.

Auto-crossers are fine with the Sumis and V12 because the tires dont have much of a chance to heat up on a max 2min run.

For lapping pay the money to keep your car off the walls!!!

I know not so popular for the Pcrowd but I switched to Toyo Proxes as my 'spirited' street driving tire with lots of canyon runs and love them - by far my favorite tire to date and very reasonable price.

Well as weird as it might seem, this Korean rubber company is sponsoring this year's DTM championship as their official race tire. You know, the race that consists of three German automakers?

I started with Michelin PS2's, went to some Sumi's, then went to Dunlop Sport Maxx GT's, this year I am starting on some michelin Super Sports. I have run the V12 on another vehicle and was not super impressed, only reason I got them was because of price and availability and soon after regretted it, the only reason I would buy them again would be if I was broke and needed tires the same day and they were the only ones available.

I will usually go through 2 sets of tires a year, never really go below 50% on any of them, but so far the Sport Maxx GT's have been my favorite, we will see how the new Super Sports work, had them for about two weeks now and they seem pretty good.

I will Never buy V12's again. They chunked in under 10 laps on track. Badly. They are fine for the road, but will be easily overdriven by a Porsche with an average driver. Even on the road. They have good wet characterustics, though. if you plan to push the car, you will find the V12 limits long before you are ready.

Good all around tire with higher limits and good wet handling too? Yokohama. Less than pilot sports and very nice tires. I was pleasantly surprised!

I disagree. I'm very pleased with PS2s. Sorry your experience hasn't been good.

I would like to try PSSs when they become available in the proper size for wide body rear wheels.

I probably would have bought the PSSes if they were available for wide bodies when I needed tires last Fall. Instead, I decided to give the Sumis a shot and I am not at all disappointed. Now, I haven't tracked my car and I haven't taken it on any long trips but I have enjoyed some spirited drives and I do use it as a daily driver (more or less) during the warm months. Are PS2s better? Sure. Are they twice the tire? Not even a little. I am very happy with them and don't regret buying them for a second. YMMV.

I'm looking at Kumho Ecsta SPT. Very good price and great reviews by Porsche drivers on Tire Rack. Anybody here try them?

I just practically gave away my SPT's that were on my wife's BMW. Harsh ride and get's noisy as it wears. Road grip was pretty decent. FWIW, it got replaced with Continental DWS and they were better vs the SPT's in almost all aspects.

I replaced the P-Zeros that came on my R with a set and I will say that they are WORLDS better than the P-Zero...at least on that car. I don't put a lot of mileage on my cars generally but I will probably try something else when they wear out. I'm still a PS2 fan at heart but I like trying out the competition sometimes just to see what all of the buzz is about. The Sumis and Kumhos are so inexpensive you can always swap them out for the "better" tire and sell them on eBay if you end up hating them and you won't feel like you threw away tons of cash.
