This thread makes me want to chat about IMS and RMS issues, The Pinnacle of modern Porsche development.

CVT cars go beyond just being boring to drive. They are actually annoying to drive. I'll pass!

Me too!

The experience was like driving with a constantly slipping clutch. Would have preferred a straight auto to that sentra thing.

Although... it was the last car I had to drive before my 996. So as far as pallet cleansers go, perfect.

CVT does have some advantages in some cases. For F1 it could be made to work, might be worth the development costs, because the CVT can better accommodate the very narrow power band F1 engines have. 6 and now 7 speed manual transmissions are an attempt to provide enough gears to keep the F1 engine spinning in its power band under a wide variety of conditions (vehicle speeds).

In street cars the engines of cars that have a CVT are designed/tuned to reach an optimum rpm range and stay there as this is where they are most efficient. These engines need a CVT to deliver their best.

Just fitting a CVT into a car equipped and designed/intended to work with a non-CVT transmission would result in something less than the sum of its parts.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I used that in my last oil change and to be honest, the car really seems to like it.

I felt a little snarky yesterday and I didn't have any meetings or anything going on at work to properly vent.

Not to start another oil discussion, but same here. I switched to Rotella from Mobile1 in my old Audi S4 and several small oil leaks that had been annoying me for as long as I'd owned the car magically went away. The 911 seems to really "like" it as well. Maybe it's all mental, but that good enough for me, since 90% of the "problems" with most people's cars come from their head anyway...

As I'd guess do 90% of the cures.

Sincerely,

Indeed! For example, ever noticed how the car always seems to run so much better when it's freshly washed and waxed?

The only place a CVT has found an accepting audiance is 'snomobiles'. Last I looked, the p-car has tires on 4 corners, not ski's in the front or a track in the back.
