I have had Mark test one of my cars as well as several friends' cars. I started out a skeptic but the science and methodology is sound. Please read the article on the link above. If you have IMS concerns (you should...) this is a great learning tool. So if your local put the event on your calendar.

I didn't realize that Ed has become a parts specialist so quickly - must have been all that P-car practice.

Our buddy Ed was a part specialist at least 5000 posts ago. The GT2 wing was the shoe in.

Sounds promising technology! Would be nice if they can use a smartphone (somehow fix it to the engine) and just run an app like this to do the FFT

I wish they had this session when I was still in Seattle. Time to read up on this vibration diagnostic writeup, interesting!

There were quite a few M96/97 folks at the Saturday Tech session, and I for one really enjoyed it. Mark is a very good "Professor of Motor Noise", and took us through the science before he started testing. I am sure my experience with him in the test run was common for all of us as he guided me thought the process and after showed me the result with his analysis of my motors good health. While Mark has some differing opinions of the cause of our "IMS" issues from what others have offered - he is a strong believer in the overall "goodness" of this 996/997 engine family design.

Also a BIG Thank You to Motoring Unlimited for the very accommodating use of their facility and supportive conversations about our M96/97 engined Porsche's.

I had a great time, learned a lot and got to meet a few fellow local Porsche owners. Also, hearing Mark comment about how remarkably quiet my engine was helped to confirm what I already believed about the health of my car.

Also, for anyone who is local and hasn't been to Motoring Unlimited, you should at the very stop by and check out their shop. Everything is immaculate and the cars they have there right now are what dreams are made of!
