Want to get back into a P-car daily driver
Although the styling doesn't warm my heart like some other eras of 911, I don't find the 996 objectionable and thought I would take advantage of the current "sale" on these cars to jump back into a 911. My current DD is a VW Touareg TDI. Although this is a wonderful vehicle and tows Boxilla perfectly, I just gotta have my Porsche fix on the streets.
I previously had a 996 GT3 so am somewhat familiar with this line. I am negotiating on this car currently. If they go for my price, I will get a PPI. Anyone familiar with this car?

Am trying to keep the emotion out until the purchase happens. That way I won't overpay. The Dodge dealer who owns the car I referenced above apparently hasn't followed the 996 market closely as the salesman acted offended at my $26k offer. No biggie. I am not emotionally attached so it was no problem to walk away.

Actually, I'm not sure that you have followed the 996 market as closely as the salesman. That 2003 is priced about right.
The current "sale" that you refer to ended a year or two ago. Prices have stabilized, and perhaps even gone up a bit for lower mileage cars with desirable colors and options. Part of this is driven by the overall increase in the value of used cars and the simultaneous decrease in inventory brought on by the recession.
You might find a 47k '03 in great condition for $26,000... but I would not bet on it.

Agreed. I am not shopping now but when I bought my car late last year, the prices had already started to tick up a little. At least in my part of the country. It seems like they are still stable or moving up a bit.

I don't put much value on low miles in a 911. I have owned several over the years including a couple 996 variants, a GT3 and a TT. I probably am not up to speed on pricing but am thrilled and excited to report that I just committed to buy a one owner 01 911 from a fellow enthusiast/PCA member for only $18k! He has meticulously maintained the car as verified by a call to Reeves in Tampa. His reason for selling is that it has turned 100k miles and this makes him nervous. To me that mileage is nothing on one of these fine machines. I will post pics as soon as I have time to go get it. Fortunately it is only a couple hour drive away.

Would anyone worry about the IMS issue on a car with over 100k miles? I had understood that engine failures related to this issue were unlikely on higher mileage cars. I have a 986S with 85k miles. I beat the crap out of it regularly at Sebring and it doesn't even leak a drop of oil. Of course if that motor blows I get to put a 3.8 so I am not so worried. LOL

Depends who you want to believe I guess. Some (me) aren't that concerned and may replace when my clutch decides it's time to quit. Otherwise, I don't lose any sleep over the IMSB like many who are desperate to do the 'fix'.
