Default rear deck shock removal

I'm picking up a new shock after work today and couldnt figure out how to get the old one off. I imagine there is some sort of way to release it by the metal clips that go around the ball portion of the shock.

any advise would be apreciated.

Renntech.org shock/strut DIY located here:

(oh, and do post some pics of your car, since it's your first post.)

edit: duh, sorry misread your post.... ignore the link (unless you are replacing a suspension component)

IIRC, you just pull off the metal clip with a pair of needlenose pliers, and the shock end pulls off of the ball joint. Super easy.

Logray, I think your link is for the wheel strut. The OP is talking about the support for the rear deck lid, I believe.

Oh, and I agree; the original poster should post some pics!

The OEM shock retaining clip pops off very easily under pressure so be careful if you are using a screwdriver (you don't want to hit your eye or have the clip end up somewhere in your engine). The replacement shock click slides up and stays attached to the ball socket. Very easy once you do it once.

Sweet! I love those old 914's. I might not have been able to part with it.

it was the beginning of my love affair with Porsche, selling it made buying the 996 possible.

I've always said "someday I will own a 911" and now that I do, I feel like Peter in Office space after he wakes up from after being hypnotized.

I am finally truly happy
