Yeah, I have no idea if it is actually necessary but it makes me feel better, and I've found the "happy feeling" usually prevents about 90% of problems with cars. If you think the car is happy, it seems to magically run better.

LOL! I'll be sure and ask my wife to do that the next time she gets in it.... not!

It's cheaper to just have the seats recovered every couple of years as opposed to having her pissed at me for treating my car better than I treat her.

It is a mandatory 2 step process & works very well.

Handle the handles & sit on the seats! (only)

The I recalled when I first joined the forum and a the topic of the front hood emblem needing replacement and how closing the hood by pushing on the emblem is the wrong answer. I quit doing that trick after reading how the emblems aren't easy to get and attach............

So I'm just wondering what else have guys found is what not to do.

Might as well add don't use strong rim cleaners since it takes the protective coat off and the metal is prone to corrode.
I've closed the door on my Boxster and my Turbo this way since day one for both cars with no harm. 'course I am gentle. I used this technique once when I closed the door of my sister's BMW and she I didn't like it. So I stopped using this technique with her car and would probably not use when closing someone else's car door unless I observed the same technique being used.

Close the trunk lid by pressing down on where the latch catch is attached. This the area that receives the resistance when closing the trunk lid.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I was pretty good at that till the big bill for the porsche rebuilt engine. Happened at 122k miles so eh. Kind of seems the repalcement engine doesn't have the kick in the pants but its only got maybe 1k on it so far.

I tried non porsche wiper blades only once and they didn't do very good. Sadly last porsche pair cast $65 up 100% in price. So for now going non porsche blades seems the wrong thing to do except for price wise.

How about kicking the handle that pops the hood while getting out of the car.... always leaving scuffs on it..

When I first got my car those handles had already taken abuse.

I do make an attempt when getting into the car to sit down and bang my shoes together to get the debri off the shoes before getting in. It's just a little attempt to keep stuff out that gets in anyway but slower than it could of been.

Cool

I make a concerted effort not to pour sand or water into my gas tank.

By that I mean that I am very picky about where I stop to put gas in the tank. A few pennies a gallon saved somewhere cheap (and perhaps undermaintenanced) is not worth the price of a new engine. This also applies to gas stations that have substantial standing water puddles after each rain.

Rear seats, seldom used, so I generally keep them in the "closed' position with the backrests down. maybe fooling myself, but i figure it protects them from the sun.

I do that, but mainly because it makes a convenient bi-level package shelf.

But it leaves a crease in the carpet over time.......
