Anyone install one of these double din units?

I've got a Kenwood in mine. It was a great mod that really brings the interior of the car up to present day standards in terms of electronics.

Did you guys replace the amp as well, or hook it into the MOST system? I have been reading old posts but can't get this part clear in my head. Some people mention loss of functionality by not using the MOST connection. I don't care about nav instructions on the MFD but don't want to be compromising service lights etc.

Wasn't an issue for me, because 2002 cars don't utilize the MOST system.

I did replace everything though... head unit, amp and speakers.

AVICX-930BT. Yanked all the Bose stuff. Relocated climate control. Speakers, sub on the rear deck, traffic, HD radio. First long drive a couple weeks ago to Bandon Dunes from Portland. Road trip is now much more tolerable. Glad I waited until the technology was worth spending the dough.

I have done a LOT of searching, but of just seems AVIC and not AVH so far. Just curious about AVH use with the bezel kits and wiring...

I seriously considered a Pioneer AVIC unit when I did my upgrade last year. I don't think the AVH was available then.

I chose the Kenwood Excelon DNX-6960 for the following reasons:

1. It has a **** instead of buttons or touch screen to control volume. I like this much better, because it's faster and easier than buttons.

2. It is solid state - no motorized face. I like this better, and it's one less thing to break.

3. At the time, it had the fastest processor available, so the screens change very quickly when you press a button. No all units are fast - some are painfully slow.

4. Kenwood units feature Garmin navigation with live traffic updates, which I like very much.

5. Sound quality. The Kenwood unit sounds very, very good.

Any of the units will be a huge upgrade from the stock system, but I'd look at them all and prioritize what you think is important when you make your selection. I'd stick with a well-known brand like Kenwood or Pioneer. There are others out there that are cheaper, but I would avoid them if I were you.

I did the same. I started with a basic AVIC unit and upgraded to 930BT - with the parking brake bypass so that my kid can watch Curious George

Pioneer AVIC 930bt here. I have a MY03 so I had to go with a new amp. Love it.

Good points Dennis, though in NZ (since Ill get a unit from the US) the Navigation wont work, so Ill get a non-GPS unit. The new AVH seem to have button volume controls too. I will have a look at Kenwood, but tend to go Pioneer for head units in the past...
