1. It has a **** instead of buttons or touch screen to control volume. I like this much better, because it's faster and easier than buttons.

2. It is solid state - no motorized face. I like this better, and it's one less thing to break.

3. At the time, it had the fastest processor available, so the screens change very quickly when you press a button. No all units are fast - some are painfully slow.

4. Kenwood units feature Garmin navigation with live traffic updates, which I like very much.

5. Sound quality. The Kenwood unit sounds very, very good.

Any of the units will be a huge upgrade from the stock system, but I'd look at them all and prioritize what you think is important when you make your selection. I'd stick with a well-known brand like Kenwood or Pioneer. There are others out there that are cheaper, but I would avoid them if I were you.

Good luck and have fun! It's a great upgrade!

I like the iPhone slot you very subtly created under the nav unit. Very slick.

I'm not sure. They actually replaced my model with an updated model called the DNX-6980. It's the same unit, but it features integrated Pandora. I can use Pandora on mine, but I have to start it on my iPhone before I put the phone in the dock.

Thanks! It charges the phone, and connects it to the headunit.

I'm sure Pioneer has some units that have a volume **** too - it would be worth looking if you like Pioneer products. I think Pioneer makes excellent products, and you can definitely find something you like. Again - the **** vs. button issue is just personal preference. I happen to like it better.

Regarding the MOST system and Bose, to put in an aftermarket head unit, you will have to bypass the MOST system, which means replacing the amp. Then, the Bose speakers are 2 ohm speakeras as opposed to 4 or 8, which is industry standard. And the subwoofers (which are actually transducers) are 1 ohm. So, you have to either find an amp that is stable to 1 ohm, or run the sub transducers in series to bump the impedance up to 2 ohms. Then you only need an amp stable to 2 ohms, which is easier to find. OR you can replace all of the speakers, although the subs being transducers will make it difficult to replace with a traditional driver.

If you do a search for Bose and look for posts by ltc (Lewis), you can learn a lot, since he designed the system.

Stage one completed, AC controls moved to the bottom, you dont need to untape the connectors like Euro Motor suggest you can get them down as is. Next step will be to put the metal cage in, not liking this part as it requires a lot of commitment lol

The kenwood units work in nz with Nav, either with a Garmin sd card or NZ open source maps which are free. I put a DNX 7100 in my Touareg a couple of years ago. There was a hack to get .1 fm channel spacing that was on google, and I never worried about the zone 1 DVD but could have had that chipped to. The garmin nz maps are excellent. Pm me if you need them ;-)

Thanks David, I do like the look of the Kenwood units, I just completed the rest of the conversion less the wiring, will do that tomorrow then buy a Kenwood unit

I lost a clamp / retaining clip in the process though, its one which holds the switch trim (i.e. psm and convertible top etc) to the console. I think its metal and the plastic part on the trim presses into it. I think its part 999 507 533 02, can any PET pro confirm?

Nearly there just need to buy and wire up the unit I get The wiring harness for the Euro Motor Speed doesnt quite match the stock wiring harness, in that on the black plug there is one extra wire not account for in the EMS one.

Really liked the DNX series, but went with the Pioneer AVH-P4400BH in the end. Better priced and I dont need to worry about re-buying Maps on NZ for the navigation...
